I couldn't agree with you more. I'm going to send you a private message if you don't mind. I want to learn how I can get a job like your's. I applied to Best Buy for the very position you have, a COA, and I haven't heard back yet.

I'm trying to go for my A+ right now, it isn't bullshit. It is true that it's all bookwork, but it's valuable. However, without experience, the A+ certification is shit. It's the experience you get from computers that sticks with you, not cramming for the certification test.

I work at Geek Squad, and I have to say that you guys hit this one on the nose. I do work with some really quality guys, but alot of them don't know shit. If you want any chance of good service, ask for the guys with the ties, not the black polos. The ones with ties have certifications. Which would throw me out seeing as I just got hired and am a black polo (COA) right now, which isn't my point. The black polos are new, and you will probably see them if you go to Best Buy anytime soon.

It's a DIAGNOSTIC tool that doesn't fix anything. It does have a tool called LASER, a compilation of scans using several programs that cost between $30-60 each (about 10 prgms) that removes a large portion of spyware. It helps reduce hands-on time in terms of locating and removing spyware. Otherwise, doesn't fix anything; does nothing for hardware (except prelim diags) and does NOTHING for OS or 3rd party software related issues. I definitely know what I am talking about. So, no, you don't know.

a computer shop owner huh...like this doesn't sound biased..wow...I can tell you for a fact that best buy charges 20 bucks to do a general cleaning of the dirt and dust from the inside of the computer using compressed air..and the inside of the power supply being the most important part of the computer to keep dirt out of because of the heat generated.

I do not know everything about computers but most problems can be fixed by learning ourselves. Dumb people instead of taking the time to check the computer's problem trust it to people who deserve no other name than voulchers. But then again They too are trying to make a living.

the 299.99 package called an Advanced Diagnostic Repair and prevention. It includes removal of viruses, worms and what not. The the installation any antispyware and antivirus. Now I dont make the prices, I just work there, but all I can say for at least my store is that we are experts in what we do. I would hope any other best buy is the same.

I disagree with the person in the video. The A+ certification is highly respected. It does add value to the PC Tech if he has it. I bet the very techs he's complaining about in this video didn't even have the A+.

paradoxI hate to break it to you,but I just recently found out that a general cleaning of a system via scans and physically dusting out the machine,is avaliable in a package deal costing 299 bucks!I am a tech with my own business, and can tell you that with me, that same job would only be up around 60 to 70 dollars easy.I charge at 20 an hour, buteven with a reputable computer shop, your still only looking at half that price around 45 bucks an hour!Best buy is a rip off,and people are learning!
