Mao was a great man. He believed that unless China had nuclear weapons of its own, it would constantly be under the threat of nuclear blackmail from the United States. Even though millions of Chinese died so Mao can obtain Russian nuclear technology, at least we are not bullied like Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. today.

I think that if 20/40/60 million died after Great Leap Forward, it was due to a bad decision, but those peasants were not executed for Mao or the CCP or the "communism". Chinese tryied to produce more steel than England, they failed and 20/40/60 (or more if you wish) brave peasants died of starvation. Just because that should Mao be considered as criminal as Hitler who did ordered to torture and kill intentionally all jews? It´s just right wing propaganda, but it is not true.

Nobody had the heart to tell Mao that Steel production was a a lot easier and more cost effective when it's done at large scale steel mills that use skilled workers and coal. Don't you think that some of the millions of farmers who found themselves trying desperately just to make worthless lump of pig Iron could have made some helpful suggestions? This is why democracy is always better than communism, always.

I'm more pessimist then the Great Helmer was. Any way seems to me u don't fall among the former 2 classes.
